Study Groups

The Network considers it of utmost importance that the members that make up the Network receive support in obtaining and analyzing credible information. Whereas an individual’s capacity may be limited due to time and language constraints to unearth various perspectives, alternatives to violence, objective news and opposing views, then to formulate an informed position based on the myriad sources, as a collective of dedicated members the effort required by this process is spread out. But besides the practical ease of coordinating study sessions as a group, it is important that concerned folks from Japan currently in the Bay Area (and more often, away from family and friends) have a safe space in which they can share and debate information in their native language. Study groups also offer a great opportunity to engage in dialogue with folks from other active community groups, with whom members otherwise may rarely encounter despite the physical proximity of being in the diverse Bay Area. Study groups are an excellent way to avoid ‘re-inventing the wheel’, to open up communication between and among other active groups in the area, and ultimately offer the members a gateway to the active Bay Area progressive community, and of course the international Peace movement, in addition to the educational benefits of the Study Session itself.

All Study Sessions follow these agreements unless otherwise noted under special circumstances:
-It will be conducted in Japanese
-It will introduce suggested resources
-The place will rotate between San Francisco and the East Bay
-The Coordinator will rotate among the Education Committee members and other members if interested
-Email announcements of these Sessions are to be posted on the mailing list, US-Japan-NoWar@freeml.com (subscribe, to keep posted on our developments!)

Currently, Study Groups are coordinated by the members of the Education Committee, and are by default an ‘internal’ programming. However, guests are welcome, so please contact us for more details and calendar of topics and dates!
