Current Openings (Volunteer Positions)

 

Program Coordinator (Program Escort)

Location:          Berkeley, Oakland, and other cities in the San Francisco Bay Area. 
Some desk work at the Oakland Office (Oakland Chinatown)

Responsibilities:

-         Assist participants of JPRN study tours and " The NPO Volunteer Experience Program" (scheduled in February ,March, August, September, October)

-         Accompany a group of participants to an assignment location and/or sites visit escort.

-         Help them with problems and questions.

-         Provide basic interpreting service.

-         Other miscellaneous duties as needed.

 

Qualification:

-         Must be able to accompany participants at least twice a week during the scheduled term between 2/11-3/2, 2/25-3/10, 3/4- 3/11.

-         Must be comfortable working with the Japanese-speaking precipitants who has limited English proficiency including Japanese college students.

-         Volunteer Age 20-40 suggested but not required.

-         Delightful personality with excellent facilitation skills is preferred.  

-         Japanese language learning students or former JET program participants are welcomed.

 

 

Program Assistant (assistant to program operation in general)

Location:          Oakland Office (Oakland Chinatown), Partial work from home (possible)

Responsibilities:

-         Preparation and translation work of the JPRN programs such as  " The NPO Volunteer Experience Program".

-         Scheduling the site visits and volunteer opportunities, making appointments with hosting organizations. 

-         Handling some inquiries (phone call/email/fax) and answer questions.

-         Provide participants with assistance and support.

-         Provide basic translation/interoperation service.

Qualification:

-         Must be able to work 4 or more hours per day, 2 or 3 days per week (working schedule negotiable).

-         Japanese speaking and reading skill is preferable.

-         Interest in NPOs and related areas is desirable. 

-         A commitment of three month or more is desirable. 

 

 

Program Development

Location:          Oakland Office (Oakland Chinatown), or work from home.

Responsibilities:

-         Develop plans of Japan-US grass-root exchange project, volunteer program and educational tours related to nonprofit activities.

Qualification:

-         Must be interested in finding ways to introduce the US nonprofits and community activities.

-         Demonstrating sufficient experience in writing proposal is preferred. 

-        
A commitment of three month or more is desirable. 

 

 

Volunteer Program Planner

Location:          Oakland Office (Oakland Chinatown), or work from home.

Responsibilities:

-         Research and develop group volunteer oppotunities for JPRN programs.

-         Contact organizations that may possibly accept JPRN group volunteers.

-         Participate in on-site volunteering and volunteer orientation as need.

 

Qualification:

-         Must be able to work 5 or more hours a week.

-         Must be interested in volunteerism and various volunteer activities.

-         A commitment of three month or more is desirable. 

 

 

Grant Proposal Writer

Location:          Work from home possible (work schedule and term negotiable)

Responsibilities:

-         Conduct research on nonprofit grantmakers 

-         Write grant proposals to apply for funding.

Qualification:

-         Must display excellent writing skills. 

-         Must display a great desire to improve advanced writing skills in English (or Japanese). 

-         Possessing experience in proposal writing and grant writing is preferred. 

 

 

Fundraiser

Location:          Work from home (work schedule and term negotiable)

Responsibilities:

-         Recruit volunteers.

-         Facilitate PR and fund raising activities towards business corporations

Qualification:

-         Must have interest in community outreach services and networking. 

 

 

Japanese-English Translation

Location:          Work from home (work schedule and term negotiable)

Responsibilities:

-         Translate program handouts, brochures, web pages, business letters, articles and other documentation into English.

-         Translating languages are Japanese/English and English/Japanese.

Qualification:

-         Translation learning students are also welcomed.  Please register your name in our database, and we will contact you when we are in need of your help.   

 

 

Japanese-English/English-Japanese Interpretation

Location:          Berkeley, Oakland, and other cities in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

Responsibilities:

-         Provide on-site interpreting service for JPRN’s educational tours, and help facilitate the communication during the NPO visiting and hearing. 

-         Subject areas include human rights, elderly issues, disability issues, youth education, community planning and development, environment, social welfare, corporate social responsibility, NPO management, and so on.

Qualification:

-         Interpretation learning students are also welcomed.  Please register your name in our database, and we will contact you when we are in need of your help.   

 

 
DTP/Graphic Design Work

Location:          Work from Home (work schedule and term negotiable) 

Responsibilities:

-         Design and create Japanese flyer, brochure and program handouts.

-         Design and create Web banner ads.

Qualification:

-         Must be able to make Japanese writing materials.

-         Must be able to use both Illustrator and Photoshop.

-         Professional graphic designers are welcome. (Students majoring in Graphic Design are also welcome.)

-         Mac proficiency preferred.

 

Web Creator/Editor

Location:          Work from Home (work schedule and term negotiable) 

Responsibilities:

-         Create animation, slideshow, video and other web contents on website.

-         Update the contents on JPRN's website.

Qualification:

-         Must be able to use Dreamweaver, Flash or similar software.

-         Must be able to upload flash contents to website.

-         Pofessional web designers are welcome. (Students majoring in Web Design are also welcome.)
